Our Performance for Cathy

Due to our performance being in the style of Brecht we aren't following the script, we are performing the play Cathy but we changed it so the audience is Cathy and they will go through the journey of what it's like to be homeless in a Brechtian style. We begin in a party setting this is an immersive section and we have personal interaction with the audience inviting them into little groups and treating them as our servant. This is my groups script for this section-

intro - Saying hello,asking whether they will hand out crisps.

This is Cathy
Cathy had a perfect life
But when she left home she couldn’t find employment
Cathy ended up not ending to pay rent
She had a baby
Cathy’s got kicked out
Cathy became homeless
Cathy gets rejected by the food bank
She then became a prostitute
Cathy got arrested for prostitution
She is now serving her community service here.

India: They should commit more to their education (gestus clapping)

Katie: poor people don't have enough opportunities (gestus laughing)
Alice: we should kick out all the immigrants who are stealing our jobs (gestus hand shakes)

Anecdote - story about a person
A homeless person came up to me on the train the other day asking for money her lips were chapped and she had loads of layers of clothes on really stereotypical. She started talking to me about how she got homeless she used to have a good job didn't go to uni or anything so she got a job in a hair dressers but the hairdressers didn't get enough business and when they closed she was left without a job and not enough qualifications to get another one that paid enough for her rent so she ended up on the street. Never done drugs, not an alcoholic just a woman on a street living in graveyards to get by at night and walking through trains for money.

my Rant (in the performance Katie will read her rant) -
Homeless people It's such an enigma you have to have a job to get the house but it's hard to have a job if you're homeless because no one hires a homeless person so you're left in a jobless homeless cycle. The governments so messed up they try as hard as they can not to help with loopholes and tests to determine how homeless you are when the last time i checked if you live on a street fearing your life or sleeping on buses or in graveyards so you don't get raped. The last time i checked those people need help. Everyone needs some help but people just don't like helping.

During the rant we lead the audience to their seats and sit down to begin the next section which is our scenes. Luke is the housing officer and our scenes will be picked out at random like numbers in a housing office.

My scene is scene 6, housing office number 2 and i play Shania.

We begin with elevator/ advert music playing and we dance on, as Luke is the housing officer plus he is in my scene he is playing oblivious but takes the whiteboard and the script i give him and reads the stage directions. We create a gestus of an over excited Shania and an uninvolved on the phone Danielle. As Luke is speaking we are reacting to what he is saying. I introduce the house as if its a housing advert and draw a childish house on the white board with a happy Cathy stick person to show how happy Cathy will be if she takes the house. Then we go into a wheres gates head section interacting with the audience asking them where Gateshead is and Luke leaves the stage. We break out of the Gateshead and go to a section where me and Natasha (Danielle) are talking to Cathy in our separate locations and time zones but the conversations are connected. Cathy gets angry i call on my manager Luke who is out of character on the phone and I ask him to come back to the scene and help me in a comically over positive way. He recites some housing office jargon which we react to me in a bitchy told you so way and once it finishes we dance off stage to the elevator music which is still playing.

In the middle of the performance there will be an ad break.

The ad break is in the style of a person flicking through TV channels so we see a few seconds of some shows about the housing crisis. My show is I'm a celebrity get me off the streets where
