The audience understood the message we were trying to portray that 16 year old's should be able to vote and not being able to vote when you’re contributing to society is unfair because we had a clear visual images and factual prompts around us. However I don’t know how much they took away from the performance, they may have been more educated but I don’t think the message was sustained and probably won’t stay with them because our performance wasn’t very shocking. The audience were talking about the issue and picking up our cards interacting with us and Max which was good and unexpected because we weren’t sure how involved they would be, some older kids and teachers were arguing with Max but more younger kids agreed showing how most young people want to be able to vote.
There was a huge issue that occurred where our tape went missing so we had to re-plan everything and improvise as we were performing. Cat wasn’t even there at the very start because she was looking for duct tape for the performance. Saffron sat in the wrong place which threw off the speech and our cards ran out during the performance. We didn’t get the performance space we wanted which threw us off and caused issues with spacing as our piece revolved around being under the stairs and the duct tape. Katie couldn’t be there because of her Grandad’s funeral which left us a person down and meant we couldn’t do one of our ideas of having an old person vote and die which was really disappointing and left us with a shorter performance. The location slightly hindered our performance and messed with the aesthetic heavily affecting us however it wasn’t the worst location and we had large crowds. We had the debate going on repeat which worked really well to give information and facts without us taking verbally because we wanted some of us to stay silent to show how we have no voice, there was a moment where it hadn’t began replaying yet and the mood dropped because of the silence making it less impactful and when it played again I felt the difference. Overall there were lots of issues with our performance but I think aesthetically the cards were an unexpected win, the visual of the cards was more successful than I thought it would be and I’m pleased that people looked at them overall it had a positive outcome. If I could do it again I would have tape, sit in the right place, have more cards and be under the stairs.
It was interesting because we had a variation of ages in the audience around us who were impacted by it in different ways, there were ks4 students who are coming up to that stage in their lives and wanted an opinion on it and people who were 16 walking past agreeing and having conversations with their friends about the facts we had spread around or how they felt about it and there were people who were in year 13 or teachers who can vote giving their opinions and having conversations with Max about the issue really getting involved and showing it from different perspectives. I was sitting writing an i would hear these conversations happening around me and see people picking up cards and it was really encouraging and good to see we could really cause a conversation to occur through something so simple that we were doing.
